DragonCon
Years attended: 2010-Present
DragonCon is the first convention I ever went to. A friend of my hubby's invited us to room with them and some friends. It was definitely trial by fire. There were eight of us in a room, attending the largest fan-run convention in the country. But it was so much fun that we haven't missed one since!
I just love the overall vibe. You're there with over 80,000+ other geeks (at least before COVID). We like to call it our "geek vacation" because we get to relax and be ourselves for those five days.

Ohayocon
Years attended: 2012-2015
After experiencing a convention, I decided to check out Ohayocon. Back in college, a roommate told me about it while it was still a new convention. I looked into it and it looked like a fun time. Also, being in town, I figured I wouldn't need a hotel room! I kept going back in the hopes that I would find the vibe, but I just couldn't. I think part of it is the fact that I don't get a hotel room.
It's a great convention, it's just not for me.

Marcon
Years attended: 2014-2018, 2020*, 2022
It took a few years, but I finally got to Marcon. When I first found out about it, it was being held over Easter weekend. I love my convention time, but I am not going to give up Easter weekend. Then it moved to Mother's Day weekend. Yay! It was a wonderful experience. I've never enjoyed being at a convention by myself before then. And I found myself a part of a wonderful group full of wonderful people and new friends.
One difference between Marcon and Ohayocon for costuming, I get a hotel room. I like not being restricted by time and comfort. I can do the same type of costumes that I take to DragonCon. It's great having that base at the con for costume changes and relaxing in general.
Also, unlike the other conventions, I am really involved. I am on panels. I moderate panels. I suggest panels. It's so much fun! It also helps me figure out which costumes to bring. ;)

*Thanks to COVID-19, Marcon in 2020 was cancelled. I was registered to go, so I count it.
