First I feel the need for a definition:
Wafuku (和服, literally Japanese clothes) is a general term for all types of traditional Japanese clothing, including kimono and other items. The term was originally coined to differentiate Japanese-style clothing from Western clothing in the Meiji era, prior to which "kimono" or "kirumono" had been used as general terms simply meaning "clothing." -"Wafuku", Immortal Geshia Why I chose to be the Tenth Doctor This idea came to me while driving home from a vacation: The Doctor in Japanese-style clothing. I had bought 5 yards of fabric to make the blue suit a while back. But after much looking and considering, I decided to simply buy the suit which left me with 5 yards of blue fabric with red pinstripes... Construction notes Initially I was going to use upholstery fabric to make the hakama, but I ended up going with linen for a couple of reasons. First, it's a very traditional fabric to use for hakama. Second, they are going to breathe so much more than the upholstery fabric. A very important aspect considering this is going to be worn at DragonCon, which can get quite warm and humid. |
