Starting in February 2022, I have been employed at Dragon's Lair Comics and Fantasy in Columbus, Ohio. One of the wonderful things about working there is that, as long as I wear my nametag, I can cosplay for my shift! I am taking advantage of it and having fun. Below are the costumes I've worn to work and when. It's easier than trying to list them on their pages.
For day 1 of our grand opening weekend, I decided to pull out Death. We were masked up, but took them off briefly for the picture. My hubby is with me, hiding behind that smiley face.
I didn't work that night, I just wanted to stop by and finally get the chance to bring him to the store. |
For day 2 of grand opening, I brought Pirogoeth to work at the store. It was so much fun. I really got to show her off, especially since I remembered to include the bracers. I think they really finish the look. So many compliments. So much fun!

The next costume to go in to work was my SG-13 Team Member in her woodland uniform. I decided taking the Airsoft pistol in would be too much for the store, but I got some great compliments. One customer, a veteran, immediately recognized that it is made from actual uniform pieces and said I nailed it!!
I forgot to get a pic at work, so my hubby took this after I got home (hence the mess behind me). |
Next up, I brought in my new Dr. Horrible Groupie for a shift. I haven't worn this costume in almost a decade. I had this new t-shirt for years, but I never felt like wearing it to a con. That has now changed! One customer recognized it because her hubby cosplays as Dr. Horrible in his red coat! It may not be the biggest thing to wear anymore, but it is simple and comfy, and sometimes you need that at a convention.

Then I decided that Dr. Abbey should take puppy Joe and Barney out for the day. No one knew who I was, but it was still fun being her. At least Barney worked out really well. I wasn't worried about not having the right hair, even if no one knew why there was an octopus on my head.
Again, I forgot to get a pic at work, so the hubby snapped this when I got home. |
Eventually I figured since I work in a store that sells the book, I should wear my Bitch Planet inmate for a shift, and do a little reading. Wearing it reminded me why I hadn't been wearing it: I really do need to remake it. But it was still a fitting costume for work.

At Dragon's Lair on Thursday nights, we have what we call Paint and Take night. We 3-D print miniatures for people to come in and paint and take home with them. For a small fee, they get the mini and we provide paint, brushes, and help from one of our full-time employees who does miniature painting.
One week he decided to print off a bunch of bards. I immediately knew I needed to bring Elliott Starchild in for the night. Especially since I finally got his hair done! It was so much fun! |
After this long, I decided I needed to bring my inner goddess out at work. I decided to debut my genderqueer Dawn. It felt so good to be so myself while being a character. She is definitely going to be going to conventions. Especially once I can get that chain to behave better.
|
I decided that it needed to be a little quieter at work, so Silent Bob went to the store on a Thursday night. Quite a few people recognized me, which made it even more fun!
|
I didn't get a pic, but Crichton made a visit to The Dragon's Lair. Only a couple of people knew him, but it was still fun. I decided to go genderfuck that day because I didn't want to deal with the binder and a wig. But it proved that people still know who I was dressed as despite my natural hair and not being bound.

On May 5, 2022, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds debuted on Paramount+. I decided the best way to celebrate it would be wear my Science Officer uniform. I did have my belt, but it decided it did not want to stay on for the entire shift, hence communicator but no belt.

After being at Marcon for the entire day on May 7, I needed to take it easy at work the next day. I immediately thought of Arthur Dent. What easier way to take it easy at work than in lounge pants, t-shirt, and robe? I also had my towel and Hitchiker's Guide on me. The only thing I was missing was a nice cuppa, but I lived. Hehehe.
